Back to Boston

Well after about 12 hours of airplane food and travel at 30,000 ft, I'm happy to be home. Although I do miss the warm weather, when we got back to the house it was 50 degrees! I had a great time in Arizona shopping, hiking, and eating Thanksgiving dinner with family. I just wish we could go back sooner, there were so many things to do.

This is beautiful Tortilla Flat. My dad and I went hiking here a couple of days before Thanksgiving. Tortilla Flat is this gorgeous valley along the Apache Trail in the Superstition Mountains. There were many desert areas, narrow roads, large cliffs, and winding trails which made for an interesting drive.

The Valley is enormous and seemed to stretch on forever, or about 50 miles.

Macy's Thanksgiving Parade

Macy's Thanksgiving Parade started out as Macy's Christmas Parade in 1924. It was so
successful Macy's announced it would become an anual occurance. The first year (1927) that helium balloons were used, they popped on the Manhattan Skyline. The next year the balloons were redesigned and had return adresses on them. If one was lucky enough to find a stray balloon they could bring it to Macy's and receive a reward.

In 1942 the parade stopped for the first time in effect of World War II. This was because of the lack of rubber and helium. The materials from the balloons were scrapped for the war.

The first floats in the parade were built in 1969.

In 1979 the first Emmy (of nine) was given to the broadcasts of the parade.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Unexpected Delay

Hi,
I appologize for not starting to post yet, I encountered a problem that I wasn't expecting. You see I've had some problems with my toe. I decided I would go get it checked out and what do you know, it needed surgery. I am currently (along with getting ready for Thanksgiving) recovering. Although, I do have some photos to share from a recent shopping trip when I get back to my hotel.
